He has Parkinson's Disease so we worry that he'll fall and hurt himself, especialy when he's transferring on and off his wheelchair. My Dad is getting 24/7 care from Right at Home. Do not be shy to reach out and contact them for care that your family might be needing. They truly filled a void for us at a very difficult time with dignity and grace. We were sad to step away from Right at Home. Our Mom passed away and we then moved Dad into Assisted Living. Shalom has a big heart and is extremely gifted and wise. Dad felt like he had made a new best friend. Dad can be agitated and aggressive with strangers entering his home. Shalom entered Dad's home with the utmost respect and kindness and magic ~ I know that sounds silly, but truly there is no other word for it. Shalom came to our house to meet Dad after having done a thorough phone intake with me (his daughter). We needed in home support for our Dad with dementia. There are not enough words to say how wonderful Right at Home in Beachwood, Ohio is. We did have a family meeting, which was initiated by the family. The only things I'd like to be done better are 1) that the caregivers are given more information about the kind of care Dad needs when they first visit with him (this could be due to a last minute staff change so there may not be sufficient time) and 2) the company leaders take the initiative to meet with the whole family at least once a year to make sure everyone's concerns are heard and addressed. If they need to be someplace Dad doesn't want them to be for the sake of his safety, they do so with respect. They are all respectful of staying away from areas of the house Dad doesn't want them to go. Some caregivers are naturally more cheery than others. We can always talk to the caregiver about their side of the story. Because Dad's memory comes and goes, sometimes it's tough to know if any concerns he raises about a caregiver is real or not (Dad can get paranoid from time to time). They get the problem resolved as soon as they are able (from as short as an hour to a day, which is fast). The phone is always answered, but sometimes by an answering service. If we ever have a concern with a caregiver, we can contact the owners or other leadership staff member. He's comfortable with each caregiver, and that the caregivers are getting to know his routine and what he likes to have done (and not have done). It's nice to know we don't have to worry that he'll get fed a balanced meal and that he's on top of taking his medications. We feel relieved that someone is there to make sure he can get the help he needs when he needs and asks for it.
